Recipe for BIRD TREATS
1/2 cup of
Toasted Oats or cheerios
Special K
Rice Krispies
( you can use ANY leftover cereal )
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup of Peanut Butter - creamy
2 cups wild bird seed
1/2 cup Honey or pancake syrup
Crush up cereal, add sugar and mix
Add peanut butter
Mix
Add bird seed and honey or syrup
Mix well
Place in a square pan
Bake 250 degrees for 1 hour
Cool down, place in containers to shape or cut in squares, place in freezer for 30 minutes to harden.

Each piece of plastic Richard and Judith pick up comes back to their house, where it gets cleaned, categorized and stored before being used for their art. The couple make sculptures, prints, jewelry and installations with the plastic they find washed up, raising a deeper concern with the problem of plastic pollution in our seas.

I have built several "HOBO" stoves in the past and I thought that the "wood/gas" stoves were no better than the hobo stoves.... I was wrong. The wood.gas stove uses a double-wall design like some of the alcohol stoves out there. the gas from the burning wood is heated and pushed to the top where it is ignited as it exists the jets at the top of the interior wall.

Having enough safe drinking water is of utmost importance to any survivor. Proper information is very important and for that reason ... let's set the record straight.
Boiling Water is the Best Method
As some of us know, boiling water is surest and most effective method of destroying microorganisms including disease causing bacteria, viruses, protozoan’s, and parasites.
Modern filtering devices and the chemical treatment of water come in a poor distant second to the ancient and almost foolproof method of boiling water to make it safe to drink. And importantly to the survivor, the boiling of water requires no special apparatus, training, or difficult to find chemicals. The means to boil water for safe drinking are usually close at hand:
A source of heat
A vessel to hold the water.
Couldn’t be simpler. Or is it ?
Commonly Stated Water Boiling Times
Appparently there are different amounts of time that water needs to be boiled to kill disease organisms. If you look at the publications put out by the government and trusted health organizations ... what is glaringly obvious is they disagree on the length of time water should be boiled to make it safe to drink.
Common water boiling times that are stated include:
“Boil water for 10 minutes” is a common statement
“5-minutes of boiling” is also frequently heard
“Boil the water for 20 minutes”. Would there be any left?
“A rolling boil for 1 minute”.

Chicago was already on edge after news broke earlier this week that a number of residents had been asked to leave their condos in preparation for major rioting.
A number of local residents received letters that read:
“We are STRONGLY recommending that all residents find places to stay during the conference from May 18 through May 21.”
“In the event of a riot or the potential of one near the building, all access doors will be locked including the garage door,” the letter continues. “For everyone’s safety, we will be instructing anyone in the building to stay in his or her unit.”
As we draw closer to the NATO summit in Chicago, a number of prominent government officials are also starting to warn people to get out of Chicago. Alderman Bob Fioretti, whose district will be most affected by security efforts, was warning residents to leave town during the summit. He told local reporters “I’ve been advising people, if they can afford it, leave town.”
Having an emergency evacuation plan is critical in any situation. If things go bad during the summit, the last thing you want is to be caught off guard. If I lived in Chicago, I would immediately start planning for the worst case scenario. (it’s better to be safe than sorry)
If you can, leave ahead of time. Why take the chance of being caught up in something that could quickly turn into a life threatening situation.
If you do stay, you need to have a plan of action. Keep in mind that during a disaster most of the major highways are going to be completely clogged with people trying to get out. Plan now, and map out as many escape routes as possible.
Be aware that riots can spark off in an instant. Make sure to have plan of action in case you find yourself in the middle of a full blown riot.

The government often recommends that you need at least 72 hours worth of supplies on hand at all times.
